Google's site in Argentina has been shut down for about two hours after a web designer bought the Google Argentina domain for ९ 2.90. The incident took place last Wednesday. The domain was bought by 30-year-old web designer Nicholas Corona.
"I bought the Google.com AR domain through a simple process," he told the BBC. I never imagined it would be available to me. '
Google Argentina has also acknowledged that the domain has been in someone else's hands for some time. "Yes, the domain was gone for a while," said Google Argentina. "But, we managed to get the domain back immediately."
The incident happened while Nicholas was sitting on his desk creating a customer's website. At the same time, he got the news that Google was down on WhatsApp.
‘I immediately typed www.google.com.ar into my browser,’ he said, ‘that didn’t work. I thought something was going on. '
He visited the site of Network Information Center Argentina (NIC), the organization that operates and manages AR domains. There he searched www.google.com.ar. The domain was available for purchase.
Knowing that the domain could not be bought, he proceeded with the necessary process. After completing the entire process and paying the money, he received an invoice email claiming that he had purchased the domain. The domain was purchased for a total of ९ 2.90.
When the invoice came in the email, I searched www.google.com.ar in the search bar. "It simply came to our notice then. I stared at the screen with my information for a while. I didn't believe it. '
The domain was purchased by Nicholas at 9:52 p.m. In addition, millions of searchers were visiting www.google.com.ar.
"I did not have any negative thoughts," he said. I just tried to buy it and NIC gave it to me. '
Within minutes, Nicholas made headlines. "When the domain purchase process was over, I thought something would happen," he said. "I was completely nervous. I tried to clear the incident via tweet. '
How was that possible?
The first possibility is that Google forgot to renew the domain. However, Google has stated that the domain's license will never expire.
If so, how did NIC put the domain up for sale? So far no information has been received in this regard. However, it was not immediately clear how Google retrieved the domain.
However, Google has not said anything to Nicholas about the domain he bought. However, his money has not been returned.
